Senior Program Officer Nina Sughrue of the USIP Professional Training Program offered a half day seminar in negotiation strategies for visiting Iraqi women civil society leaders. The program was part of the State Department´s International Visitors Program.
All of the ethnically diverse women were leaders in the movement for human and women´s rights in Iraq. The half day workshop built the capacity of the women by enhancing their problem-solving and negotiation skills in order to help them strategize and successfully advocate for their needs in their country.
The short seminar was a great success largely due to the women sharing their personal stories of how they have addressed the challenges they face as women leaders in Iraq.
The women commented that the skills taught were critical for them to be even more effective in achieving their goals and urged USIP to continue such training in Iraq.
