USIP Focuses on the Conflict in Syria

At the end of a week that included renewed fighting in Syria, USIP focuses on the roles and challenges of women and minorities in the Syrian Uprising and the broader national security issues at stake for America and the world. This program is part of the Institute’s commitment to conflict management, training and peacebuilding in Syria and around the world.
Moderated by Kathleen Kuehnast, the director of USIP’s Center of Innovation on Gender and Peacebuilding, the program included:
- Ms. Rajaa Altalli, a Syrian political activist who serves as director of international relations for the organization Syrian Christians for Democracy;
- Ms. Farah Al Attasi, prominent author and commentator;
- Rasha Alahdab, founding partner of Syrian Women for Syria, and a founding board member of Syrian Expatriates for Democracy;
- Ms. Rafif Jouejati, the CEO of a Virginia-based management consulting firm, has been supporting the Syrian Revolution since March 2011.
