The United States Institute of Peace will launch its first in a series of programs titled "Conversations about War and Peacebuilding" on July 14th in San Francisco.  The series provides occasional dialogues about international affairs and international conflict with high-level guests who bring unique, bipartisan perspectives to the most salient issues of the day, including the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the conflicts brewing in the Middle East and the Korean peninsula.

The first conversation is between former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former Secretary of State George Shultz and will be moderated by veteran newsman Marvin Kalb, an author-in-residence at USIP.  This first program in San Francisco is hosted by The Commonwealth Club and will be introduced by Richard H. Solomon, president of USIP and author of the recent book, "American Negotiating Behavior:  Wheeler-Dealers, Legal Eagles, Bullies and Preachers," with co-author Nigel Quinney.

"Madeleine Albright and George Shultz are two of the great foreign policy thinkers of our time," said Tara Sonenshine, executive vice president of USIP.

"We are excited that they are both honored in our new headquarters on the National Mall and that they are helping us launch this series of programs to enrich dialogue and discussion about the dangers and challenges of our world today," Sonenshine said.
