West Africa and Gulf of Guinea
Africa’s Gulf of Guinea features some of the most dynamic economies on the continent — yet insecurity from extremist groups and the effects of great power competition pose challenges for stability and economic partnerships. Across the region, the U.S. Institute of Peace works alongside local government and security officials to mitigate conflict risks and strengthen efforts to counter terrorism and violent extremism, as well as provide strategies to advance U.S. interests in peace, security and trade. USIP also engages local civil society, U.S. and foreign diplomats, and other peacebuilders to provide support for informed analysis and decision-making.
