In conjunction with the Organization of the American States, the Institute conducted a one-week workshop for over eighty senior Latin American and Caribbean military officials along with special invited guests from the resident military missions for the Inter American Defense College at Fort McNair, Washington DC.
Acting Training Program Director Mike Lekson and Professional Training Officer Nina Sughrue conducted this one-week seminar, which was incorporated into the academic year for those students attending the Inter American Defense College's full year course. The participants brought rich and varied professional experiences and education to all interactive presentations and discussions.
The seminar consisted of presentations, exercises, and two simulations focusing on the nature of conflict, improving and practicing skills for conflict analysis, problem solving, negotiation, and mediation. Participants highlighted the value of applying what they had learned in exercises and scenarios conducted after formal presentations. Many participants stated the training would help them in their jobs. The next seminar of this kind will be held in May 2006.
