Conflict Resolution Workshop for Southern Sudanese
The Institute´s first Sudan training workshop was held in Entebbe, Uganda, from March 30-April 1, 2005, for southern Sudanese participants. Training Program officer Jacki Wilson was augmented by former Institute Education staff member Alan Tidwell for the workshop, which was conducted in partnership with the Resource Center for Civil Leadership (RECONCILE).

Advanced Third Party Skills Training for the OSCE
Ted Feifer and Jacki Wilson of the Professional Training Program conducted an advanced third-party skills workshop for the OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje, February 7-9, 2005. Mission members play an important role in OSCE support for implementation of the 2001 Ohrid Agreement designed to end interethnic fighting in Macedonia.
Dealing with Conflict: Workshop on Using Problem Solving Communication and Negotiation Skills
Ted Feifer and Nina Sughrue of the Professional Training Program conducted a three-day seminar for twenty-nine Palestinians from the West Bank in Madrid, Spain. The Institute´s trainers worked with Helsinki Espana and the Middle East Children´s Association to identify a young, vibrant group of present and future leaders who are working towards a peaceful and stable Palestine.
Negotiation and Diplomatic Skills Training, OSCE Presence in Albania
Ted Feifer of the Professional Training program led USIP´s first negotiations and diplomatic skills training workshop for the OSCE Presence in Albania in Tirana, November 8-10, 2004.
Workshop on Negotiation and Conflict Management Skills
Trainers Ted Feifer and Jacki Wilson held a workshop on negotiation and conflict management skills for 35 businesswomen from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, in partnership with the Business Women’s Association of Uzbekistan, in Tashkent, October 20-22, 2004. The workshop was opened by the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Svetlana Inamova, whose portfolio includes women's issues.
Working Effectively in Post-Conflict and Reconstruction Situations: Tools for Communication, Collaboration, and Negotiation
This biannual workshop brought together 33 participants from humanitarian NGOs, US government agencies, U.S. and U.K. military and international organizations all involved in relief and peace operations. USIP Professional Training Director George Ward and Professional Training Officer Nina Sughrue used exercises and simulations to help participants develop their skills in negotiation, conflict analysis, cross-cultural communication and mediation.

Ted Feifer of the Professional Training Program led another workshop on advanced negotiating skills in multilateral diplomacy for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna, September 20-22, 2004.
Fifth Workshop with Iraqi National Security Officials
The fifth USIP workshop with Iraqi Officials held in Washington, DC was from September 13 through September 23, 2004. The group of 52 participants included men and women from a variety of ministries including Finance, Justice, Planning, Foreign Affairs and Interior.
Intergroup Dialogue Workshop for Iraqi Facilitators
USIP has conducted the second workshop in a project aimed at fostering cooperation among Iraq´s ethnic and religious groups by training Iraqi facilitators to conduct dialogues among government and civil society leaders.
