U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin are in Asia this week for their first official foreign trip. They held meetings in Japan and South Korea. Blinken returned to the United States via Alaska where he and U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan meet with their Chinese counterparts today, while Austin is in India. On March 12, President Joe Biden and the leaders of Australia, India and Japan participated in a virtual summit of the “Quad,” a strategic dialogue between the four countries aimed at ensuring an open, free and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
Program Officer Mary Hope Schwoebel, of Education and Training Center International, traveled to Fiji to present the course "Peacebuilding, Development, and the Public Sector" as part of a team of course writers fielded by American University's Institute for Peacebuilding and Development (PDI) in support of an initiative sponsored by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to establish a Peacebuilding and Development Institute (PDI) for the Pacific Region.
Working in partnership with the Institute for the Study of International Migration (ISIM) at Georgetown University, USIP offered a two-day seminar as part of ISIM´s training program for managers of humanitarian operations.
