(Washington) – The United States Institute of Peace will welcome Iraqi Prime Minister Noori al-Maliki for public remarks and a discussion on U.S.-Iraq relations, and the current challenges facing Iraq and the region. Ambassador Beth Jones, acting assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs, will give introductory remarks.

The event is open to credentialed press. Pre-registration for this event is required. All credential requests for “Iraq's Transition” must be submitted by 3:00 p.m. EDT on October 30, 2013, to Steven Ruder, interviews@usip.org, or 202-429-3869.

Time: The event begins at 10:00 a.m. and will conclude at 11:15 a.m.

Entry Times: Doors will open at 8:00 a.m. To guarantee access, all registered media without equipment must arrive no later than 9:15 a.m. Still photographers should arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. Early arrival is recommended. Please note that these times may change.

Security requirements: At the direction of the Secret Service, extraordinary security procedures will be in place for this event, including early camera pre-set time, parking restrictions near USIP, and early door closures for all attendees.

Video photography: There is limited camera space at this event and confirmation of a camera space will be provided by Steven Ruder on Wednesday, October 30 at 4:00 p.m. All confirmed video crews must arrive no later than 5:30 a.m on October 31. Confirmed crews and equipment will be screened through the vendor entrance off 23rd Street at that time. Additional logistical information will be shared with confirmed camera crews. Video cameras must remain fixed on a tripod for the duration of the event.

Still photography: Still photographers may arrive beginning at 8:00 a.m. and no later than 9:00 a.m. to allow time for Secret Service screening.  During the event, still photographers will be granted escorted access closer to the stage.  Still photographers will not be allowed roam freely during the event.

Parking: Parking is not available at the U.S. Institute of Peace for this event. Street parking on 23rd Street between E Street and Constitution Avenue will not be available. Camera crews will be able to drop off equipment at the USIP vendor entrance but will be required to park elsewhere.

Webcast: This event will be webcast live in English at http://www.usip.org/current-usip-webcast. A video archive will be available for use several hours after the event at http://www.usip.org/events/iraq-s-transition-remarks-iraqi-prime-minister-he-mr-noori-al-maliki.
