Dr. Richard H. Solomon, president of the United States Institute of Peace, today issued the following statement on the White House’s announcement that President Obama intends to nominate USIP Executive Vice President Tara Sonenshine as undersecretary of state for public diplomacy:

“Tara Sonenshine has been a driving force within the U.S. Institute of Peace for many years and in various capacities. We are tremendously proud that the president has chosen to nominate her to this post, which is so critical to our country’s stature in the world. With her years working in the media and her keen understanding of foreign affairs, she is eminently qualified for the position. I know she will bring the indefatigable energy for which she is known here at the Institute to her new work at State. We look forward to continuing to work with her in the months ahead.”
