(Washington) – On Thursday, December 16, the morning after the State Department will release its Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review (QDDR), Director of Policy Planning for the Department of State Anne-Marie Slaughter and USAID Deputy Administrator Donald Steinberg will speak about the report in a public forum at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP).

According to a State Department fact sheet, the QDDR “will provide the short-, medium-, and long-term blueprint for our diplomatic and development efforts. … It will offer guidance on how we develop policies; how we allocate our resources; how we deploy our staff; and how we exercise our authorities.” Government officials have worked since July 2009 on this report. It is a planning document akin in concept to the Pentagon’s Quadrennial Defense Review, which was issued on February 1, 2010.

"The US Institute of Peace was pleased to be among the organizations that contributed ideas to this first QDDR,” said USIP President Richard H. Solomon. "We believe strongly that the prevention, management and resolution of international conflict are core national security interests."

Director of Policy Planning Anne-Marie Slaughter and Deputy Administrator Donald Steinberg will provide an overview of the QDDR then answer questions from the audience. The event takes place at USIP from 9:00 to 10:00am on Thursday, December 16.
