(Washington) – As the world acknowledges International Day of Peace today, September 21,  the United States Institute of Peace Press (USIP) has published its first-ever day planner, on sale now for 2011.

The day planner features quotes from world-renowned peacemakers and literary figures, facts about key moments in peace and conflict resolution, and comes with 13 full-color, detachable postcards – making it more than simply a place to keep appointments. In addition to 27 biweekly spreads, the day planner provides helpful tools for anyone working in international affairs, such as international dialing codes, world time differences, major international holidays, a table of weights and measures, and even moon phases.

Tara Sonenshine, executive vice president of USIP, said, “Today on International Day of Peace there are thousands of events, large and small, acknowledging the importance of prevention and resolution of violent international conflict. The United States Institute of Peace Day Planner is a way of contributing to that effort and recalling the historic dates and images of peacebuilding.”

Since its founding in 1984, USIP has been in the lead of developing the field of conflict management and peacebuilding, translating research into practice, helping to professionalize the field, and educating students and professionals about the causes of and approaches to managing international violence.

In 2011 USIP’s new headquarters will open at the intersection of 23rd Street and Constitution Avenue, NW, overlooking the National Mall. The building will house training facilities for people working in conflict zones; conference and meeting facilities for dialogue and information exchange; a Great Hall and public space for educational groups and tourists alike.
