The United States Institute of Peace today expressed its deepest condolences to the family of Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska and to the families of others who perished on board a plane that crashed Monday night.

The United States Institute of Peace today expressed its deepest condolences to the family of Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska and to the families of others who perished on board a plane that crashed Monday night. 

"Senator Stevens was a great friend to the Institute and a great supporter of our work.  We are deeply saddened by this loss," said Richard H. Solomon, president of USIP. 

"As a friend and colleague, I join others in expressing condolences to Mrs. Stevens, and the Stevens family," added J. Robinson West, chairman of the board of the U.S. Institute of Peace. "Senator Stevens was one of those who believed deeply in the USIP mission and was instrumental in getting congressional support for the Institute’s work in Iraq and for its headquarters."
