(Washington, Sept. 7) – The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) announces its class of 2007-08 senior fellows in the Jennings Randolph Program for International Peace. The Institute’s Board of Directors selected these specialists in international conflict after a rigorous multi-stage review process by staff and external experts. During their ten-month residency at the Institute beginning October 1, the fellows will lend their expertise to policy discussions in Washington and in the media while they work on projects related to conflict resolution and peacebuilding.

The incoming senior fellows’ names and project titles are available online. Each is working on a timely and important project related to priority conflicts and issues for U.S. foreign policy and the international community, including Iraq, the Middle East, Iran, relations with the Muslim world, media and conflict and more.

"The JR Fellowship program is one of the Institute’s gems," said Dr. Richard Solomon, president of USIP. "We provide a rare breathing space for practitioners, researchers, journalists and other key participants in civil society to literally collect their thoughts and share their knowledge."

This is the 21st group of fellows selected to serve the nation as a resource on the prevention, management, and resolution of conflicts. Named in honor of the distinguished Senator from West Virginia, the Jennings Randolph Program for International Peace has hosted over 200 senior fellows since 1987 from a wide array of professional backgrounds, including academia, diplomacy, journalism, international law, human rights and humanitarian affairs, and conflict resolution. A full list of former fellows is viewable online.
