Developing Civil Society in Afghanistan: Status and Prospects
Increasing security threats in Afghanistan threaten the development of a vibrant civil society. More than 380 civilians have been killed in insurgent attacks in the past few months alone, according to UN reports, and civil society leaders are often targeted. The ability of international non-governmental agencies to assist in the development of civil society is also undermined.
