Afghanistan: A Regional Perspective
In the sixth of a series of Institute briefings on the challenges facing Afghanistan in the aftermath of the Taliban regime the panel explored:
- What is Afghanistan's future as envisioned by its neighbors in central and south Asia?
- What do countries in the region see as their role in rebuilding a functioning government and economy in Afghanistan?
- What should the U.S. government be doing in the region to support its efforts in Afghanistan and to prevent the emergence of new failed states, where terrorists may find safe haven?
Moderated by the director of the Institute's new Special Initiative on the Muslim World, Richard D. Kauzlarich (former U.S. ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Azerbaijan), the discussion was webcast live on May 21 and included questions from the floor and the Internet.
