For the first time since the IGAD Monitoring and Verification Mechanism was established, the IGAD mediation directs the public release of violations of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement documented from April – August 2014.
The Protocol On Agreed Principles On Transitional Arrangements Towards Resolution Of the Crisis In South Sudan was an outcome document signed by the Government of the Republic of South Sudan and no other South Sudanese party, following deliberations at the August 2014 Summit of the IGAD Heads of State and Government.
The Communique endorses the Protocol on Agreed Principles on Transitional Arrangements Towards Resolution of the Crisis in South Sudan (Protocol of 25 August) and calls for further negotiations to conclude within six weeks, directing the mediation to continue talks even if there are boycotts.
