With the support of a USIP grant, the Stimson Center's Congressional education briefing series, Security for a New Century (SNC), is convening a series of meetings on Capitol Hill that focus on issues critical to policymaking on Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The war in Afghanistan, violence and instability in Pakistan, and continuing tensions between the U.S. and Iran pose daunting challenges for U.S. policymakers in their efforts to advance peace and security in the Middle East and South Asia. Key to effective engagement in this troubled region is greater understanding of national and regional drivers of conflict and of the possibilities for regional solutions to underlying tensions.
Since 2006, USIP’s Priority Grant Competition has supported innovative peacebuilding projects that advance the theory and practice of conflict prevention, conflict management, and postconflict peacebuilding in Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, and Sudan. Applicants may apply at anytime through the year.
With the support of USIP, the Stimson Center's Congressional education briefing series, Security for a New Century (SNC), is convening a series of meetings on Capitol Hill that focus on issues critical to policymaking on Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Engaging top experts, including those from the region, the series addresses both country-specific topics such as the current internal political dynamics in Iran, and the role of civil society in advancing security, reconstruction, and development in Afghanistan, as well as regional issues, including political, cultural, and economic ties among the three countries.
The Congressional series enables Members of Congress and their staff to examine the conditions and dynamics on the ground in these countries and across the region, gain new insights from diverse experts, and assess in a nonpartisan and deliberate fashion the road ahead for U.S. policymakers in dealing with this high priority and tension-filled region.
