(Washington) – The U.S. Senate yesterday evening confirmed USIP Executive Vice President Tara Sonenshine to be Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs.  President Obama had nominated her to the post on November 4.

Dr. Richard H. Solomon, president of the Institute, today issued the following statement:

"Tara Sonenshine has been an enormous asset for the United States of Institute of Peace for many years.  Her mastery of complex foreign policy issues; her ability to find and connect points of common interest among seemingly disparate parties; her endless well of energy and enthusiasm are all characteristics we have valued highly over the years.  While we at the Institute will miss Tara’s leadership, we are immensely proud that her talents and energy have been called upon by the President.  We send her to the State Department with every good wish, and we look forward to continuing to work with her in the months ahead.”
