The United States Institute of Peace Board of Directors, management and staff deeply appreciate Secretary Clinton’s strong words of support today for our mission and our work. During a House Appropriations Subcommittee hearing, Secretary Clinton said “The Institute of Peace is a not for profit institution formed by the congress to operationalize American’s commitment to peace by working with like minded institutions around the world. You know, sometimes the U.S. government …is not as effective as one of our teams from USIP or NDI and IRI… [The Institute] fills a real place in our whole arsenal."

“We know that these are difficult budgetary times for all organizations that work with the international community and we are grateful that the Secretary had an opportunity to speak to the unique role we play,” said USIP President Richard H. Solomon.
