Iraq: Assessing Economic and Reconstruction Issues
The security situation in Iraq continues to pose challenges to economic growth and implementation of reconstruction projects. Unemployment rates remain high and oil production remains below pre-war levels. With a draft oil law on the table and the new Bush administration strategy that offers a surge of civilian assistance and more support to the Iraqi economy from the bottom-up, the panel will examine the prospects for the future of Iraq's economy and their potential impact on U.S. policy and the region.
