Academy staff Linda Bishai and Nina Sughrue traveled with Kelly Campbell (contractor) to Rumbek, Sudan from November 17-22, 2010 to provide a training workshop on Referendum Violence Prevention (RVP). This was the second such program to take place in the South; the venue was selected to increase opportunities for follow-up with local partners Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) which has funds for referendum programming throughout Lakes State. Participants were also encouraged to stay in touch with the Institute for the Development of Civil Society (IDCS) which will continue this work from Juba and Khartoum. The 35 participants represented the Rumbek local area and other countries throughout Lakes State; 10 of the participants were women. As with the first RVP program, participants included a variety of sectors including youth unions, police, the church, media, and civil society organizations.
