Previewing Sudan’s January Referendums
The January referendums in Sudan are fast approaching. Registration for the southern referendum is proceeding and planning for the vote is in full swing. But preparations for the Abyei referendum are delayed and it remains unclear whether the vote will occur. This event previewed the referendums, with panelists discussing preparations on the ground, expectations for how the voting process will play out, and possible scenarios following the referendums. Panelists included representatives from the Government of Southern Sudan and Government of National Unity, as well as analysts recently returned from Sudan.
