The Imam and the Pastor: Healing Conflict in Nigeria

Public Event/Film Screening

Film Flyer

Join USIP for a remarkable tale of religious peacemaking and reconciliation in Nigeria at the Washington premier of the film The Imam and the Pastor. The film is based on the extensive work of Imam Mohammad Ashafa and Pastor James Wuye and tells the stories of their transformation from leaders of militant Christian and Muslim youth into grassroots peacebuilders. The film will be screened at the UN, the World Bank, the Houses of Parliament in the United Kingdom, and at various government and civil society organizations in Nigeria.

Imam Ashafa and Pastor Wuye are co-founders of the Interfaith Mediation Center, responsible for mediating peace between Christians and Muslims in Nigeria's Plateau state. Religious peace has returned to large sections of Nigeria's Plateau State and Kaduna State because of their efforts. USIP's Religion and Peacemaking program has been involved in and supportive of their work for several years.

Imam Mohammed Ashafa and Pastor James Wuye will lead a discussion of their activities following a screening of the film.
