In May 2008, the United States Institute of Peace's (USIP) Ted Feifer, Maria Jessop-Mandel, and Mary Hope Schwoebel and the Organization of American States' (OAS) Logioco Bautista, presented a course on "Conflict Management and Resolution" to the 64 students of Class XLVII of the Inter-American Defense College (IADC) at Fort McNair.
In May 2008, the United States Institute of Peace's (USIP) Ted Feifer, Maria Jessop-Mandel, and Mary Hope Schwoebel and the Organization of American States' (OAS) Logioco Bautista, presented a course on "Conflict Management and Resolution" to the 64 students of Class XLVII of the Inter-American Defense College (IADC) at Fort McNair. The IADC is an educational institution that teaches Security and Defense Studies to OAS member states.
Each year IADC graduates a class comprised of both military and civilian officials from countries throughout the Americas. The students in this year's class came from 17 countries and included Spanish, English, French, and Portuguese speakers. The USIP team facilitated two simulations which were adapted for the participants - The Palace, a negotiation simulation, and Safe Haven, a problem-solving simulation. The USIP team also conducted presentations on conflict styles, negotiation, mediation and third party roles. The OAS offered presentations on conflict analysis.
