Ann Wainscott is assistant professor of Political Science at Miami University where she teaches Middle East politics. She is on leave from her university to serve as the American Academy of Religion senior fellow at USIP. Prior to teaching at Miami, she taught at Saint Louis University for four years. Ann’s work at USIP analyzes the role of the religious sector in Iraq. Prior to arriving at USIP, Ann’s research focused on the contemporary Moroccan religious bureaucracy and its efforts to counter violent extremism. She has done fieldwork in Morocco, Senegal, Ghana, and Mali. She received a PhD from the University of Florida in 2013. She has served as a Foreign Language and Area Studies fellow and a Boren fellow. Her book, Bureaucratizing Islam: Morocco and the War on Terror, will be published by Cambridge University Press in September 2017. Her work has also appeared in the Journal of North African Studies and Politics and Religion.
