Dealing with Conflict and Crisis: International Conflict Management Seminar for Leaders
Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)
June 25 2003
The Institute, in partnership with the Inter-American Defense College, held a seminar at Ft. McNair, Washington, DC for one hundred senior government officials and military officers, including sixty students of the IADC. Participants came from twenty-eight countries from the Americas including Canada and the US, as well as the Organization of American States. The seminar was incorporated into the IADC academic year for those attending its full year course, as well as made available for those coming to IADC only for the seminar. Participants brought rich and varied professional experiences to the program. This was the second seminar conducted by the Institute for IADC. The seminar included presentations, exercises, and a simulation focusing on the nature and cycle of conflict, conflict analysis, problem solving, negotiation, mediation, and media relations. Four guest lecturers provided insights into the media, the situation in Colombia, and the OAS. Participants were confident the training would help them in their jobs. The next seminar of this kind will be held in June 2004.
