Valerie Norville joined the Institute in 2007 as director of publications. She has been a publishing professional in Washington, D.C., for more than 20 years, producing scholarly and policy books, magazines, newspapers and policy reports that encompass international affairs, economics policy and technology policy. Before joining the Institute, she was director of publications and Web development at the Peterson Institute for International Economics (2002-2007), where she previously served as books editor. Norville was managing editor at Foreign Policy magazine, which won a National Magazine award during her tenure, and served on the editorial staffs of Federal Computer Week during its launch and Government Computer News. She also has worked as a freelance writer and editor.

Norville has a B.J. in journalism and a B.A. in political science from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She holds an M.A. from The George Washington University, Elliott School of International Affairs, Science and Technology Public Policy program.
