Background
Princeton N. Lyman has over three decades of first-hand
diplomacy in both the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Agency for
International Development (USAID). Lyman most recently was the
Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs
at the U.S. Department of State where he was responsible for
developing policy and guiding participation in the UN and other
international organizations. He has served as U.S. Ambassador to
South Africa; Ambassador to Nigeria; director of the U.S. Aid Mission
to Ethiopia at USAID and as a visiting fellow with the Overseas
Development Council. Lyman is the co-author of Korean Development:
The Interplay of Politics and Economics and has written numerous
articles including "South Africa's Promise," "Ethics in Diplomacy,"
and "Refugees in the World Today and Tomorrow." His honors include
the President's Distinguished Service Award, Department of Sate
Distinguished Honor Award and Secretary of State's Career Achievement
Award. Lyman holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Harvard
University.
