Joseph Klaits

Background Joseph Klaits directs the Institute's Jennings Randolph Fellowship Program. He has written on government relations with the media, the rise of ultra-nationalism in Europe, the psychology of extremism, and state responses to dissident groups. A specialist on the history of France, Klaits co-edited The Global Ramifications of the French Revolution and Liberty/Liberté: The American and French Experiences, and has written numerous other works. Klaits has received fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Folger Shakespeare Library. A Fulbright Scholar in France, he also served as academic adviser to the Fulbright program at the United States Information Agency and consultant to the West European program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and taught at Oakland University and Catholic University.
