An internationally recognized expert on transitional justice, Michael Johnson focuses on the process of complementarity
between international justice institutions and national justice systems in the aftermath of armed conflict.
He has been the registrar for the War Crimes Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2004. In 2001–2004, he was the chief of prosecutions for the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Johnson also worked to establish the International Criminal Justice Resource Center from 1997–2001.
In 2006, the New Hampshire Bar Association named Johnson the Daniel Webster International Lawyer of the Year. Prior to his international legal service, he won numerous awards for his work as an elected county attorney in Concord, New Hampshire (1982–2001). Johnson holds a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America.
