Background
John Darby is professor of ethnic studies at the University of Ulster and research director of the Initiative on Conflict Resolution and Ethnicity (INCORE). He is also the director of the Ethnic Studies Network and the founder and former director of the Centre for the Study of Conflict at the University of Ulster (1985-91). From 1974 to 1985 he was a lecturer in social administration at the New University of Ulster. Darby has been a guest scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and a visiting scholar at the Rockefeller Center in Bellagio. He is the author of three books, Scorpions in a Bottle, Political Violence, and Conflict in Northern Ireland. Darby holds a Ph.D. from the University of Ulster.
