Background
Paul Arthur is professor of politics and course director of
the master's program in peace and conflict studies at the University
of Ulster. He is Ulster Television's political analyst for all major
events, including elections. Arthur has served on a number of public
bodies including the Northern Ireland Community Relations Council,
the Cultural Traditions Group and the Independent Commission chaired
by Lord Kilbrandon to examine the report of the New Ireland Forum
(1984). Since 1995 he has been on the international advisory board of
the Foundation for a Civil Society's Project on Justice in Times of
Transition. At present, he is on the executive board of the
British-Irish Association and serves as a judge on the Ewart-Biggs
Memorial Literary Prize. He has acted as a consultant to the Carnegie
Commission on Preventing Deadly Conflict and is a member of the
academic advisory board of the Initiative on Conflict Resolution and
Ethnicity (INCORE) and the Conflict Archive on the Network (CAIN). He
is the author of several books and journal articles, including
Government and Politics of Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland
Since 1968. Arthur holds a M.Soc.Sc. from Queen's University
Belfast.
