    IRIN, a unit of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), provides a clearinghouse of information for humanitarian and international communities on the crises in sub-Saharan Africa. Its web site contains special reports and news briefs organized by country, region, or theme such as East Africa. Includes links to related web sites. An e-mail subscription for IRIN reports is also available.
  • Reliefweb: Countries & Emergencies: Sudan
    ReliefWeb, a project of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), "is the global hub for time-critical humanitarian information on Complex Emergencies and Natural Disasters." Its Latest Updates section includes press releases, news from wire services, reports and other documents from various sources, searchable by sector, content type, region and type of organization. Its Countries & Emergencies section, organized by country and region, includes documents, maps, a country profile of links to relevant web sites, among several items. The Map Centre features maps organized by country and emergency.
  • UNHCR: RefWorld
    The web site for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has databases for country of origin and legal information documents and reports. Pull-down menus allow selection by country and/or subject and a specific search engine feature is also provided. Each country compilation includes links to country reports, legal documents, news and maps.
  • United Nations Human Rights Website: Documents Database
    This database contains the most recent documents and can be searched by country, as well as by UN body, mandate, subject, symbol and year. A search by Sudan retrieves documents organized by year.

Away from the headlines dominated by the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, a civil war between Sudan’s military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) is pushing the country to the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe. As an allegedly genocidal RSF gains the upper hand, a U.N. official has warned that Sudan is “facing a convergence of a worsening humanitarian calamity and a catastrophic human rights crisis.”
