The Paris Peace Talks of December 1972–January 1973
Scenario
This simulation focuses on a brief phase in the Paris Peace Talks when the U.S., North Vietnam, South Vietnam and the Soviet Union are meeting in Paris to salvage peace in Vietnam. Two months earlier the Government of South Vietnam had announced its disagreement with a draft text, blocking further progress. Now, the major parties have agreed to come together and try to achieve a peace agreement in the belief that this may be the last chance to do so. In role-playing these four major stakeholders, participants will be asked to consider issues of cooperation, the threat of force, and the role of secrecy in peace negotiations.
