(New Orleans) - At this week’s International Studies Association (ISA) annual meeting, the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) announced the creation of a dissertation prize in peace studies. This annual award seeks to honor an outstanding dissertation focused on violent conflict, conflict resolution, or peacebuilding.
Recognition and support for innovative research and analysis on conflict prevention, conflict management, and peacebuilding by outstanding individuals have been an important element of the Institute’s 30 year history. Since 1988, the Jennings Randolph Peace Scholars program has supported the dissertations of roughly 265 young scholars conducting original work in the field of international peacebuilding and conflict management.
Presented at the annual ISA meeting, the dissertation prize in peace studies honoree will receive a $1000 cash award. The nomination and application process, as well as the complete details regarding the selection process will be available in the spring 2015 ISA newsletter and on the USIP and ISA websites. The inaugural award will be for dissertations completed in a U.S. graduate program, accepted in calendar year 2014 and nominated by the deadline of July 1, 2015. The prize will be awarded at ISA 2016 in Baltimore, MD.
