The U.S. Institute of Peace Library is a member of MERLN, the Military Education Research Library Network, a consortium which facilitates resource sharing among its 35 member libraries, most of which are associated with military education and research facilities. MERLN is managed by the National Defense University Library [1] at Ft. McNair in Washington, D.C.
The holdings of the USIP library are included in the cooperative MERLN online catalog, enabling researchers and scholars to search for books, visual materials, computer files, internet resources, serial publications, and other materials owned by any of the member libraries, including the Institute.
The MERLN Group Catalog [2] provides Basic, Advanced and Expert search levels. The MERLN search screen permits the use of truncation, Boolean logic and other methods of enhancing search strategies. Help buttons provide assistance in using the catalog’s features; for additional assistance, contact the library at 202 429-3851.
Please be aware that the MERLN catalog searches the collective holding of all MERLN libraries and does not search the USIP library’s holding separately, but MERLN will indicate whether any specific book or other item is in the USIP library collection.
The MERLN [3] Web site also provides access to the Military Policy Awareness Links (MiPALS), which include defense-related U.S. policy statements on a variety of countries and topics, and to the National Defense University Library’s public digital collections.
