The Security Sector Reform Working Group convenes monthly public meetings to discuss critical issues related to the reform of police and military forces and their supervising institutions in conflict-affected countries. This monthly forum provides an opportunity for officials, practitioners academics, NGO representatives, and members of the private sector to share their diverse perspectives and lessons learned.
The SSR Working Group is chaired by Robert Perito [1], director of the Security Sector Governance Initiative.

Security sector reform (SSR) is a highly complex and political process involving a range of international and local actors. There is a growing policy consensus that sustainability is a critical component of success for SSR programs, and that early local ownership is a critical component of sustainability.
