  • On June 2, 2011, USIP and the Great Lakes Policy Forum hosted a discussion on how the United States and the international community can defuse a potential political crisis in the DRC. This November, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will hold the first round of presidential elections amidst decreasing levels of human security and stability. Over the past two years, USIP has actively undertaken projects on improving governance in the DRC through its diaspora dialogue series and a focus on peace, development, and anti-corruption

  • This event celebrated the publication of Youth in Post-Conflict Reconstruction: Agents of Change by Stephanie Schwartz published by the U.S. Institute of Peace. The panelists drew on their own experiences working with youth in conflict zones to distill best practices in addressing youth needs in areas of conflict and pinpoint what issues must be resolved as we look to the future.

  • Ending sexual violence in eastern DRC requires sustained intervention by a wide range of stakeholders, including faith-based institutions. To assess intervention efforts thus far, USIP holds a discussion about effective policies and ongoing faith-based initiatives working to end conflict and sexual violence in eastern DRC.

    This workshop aimed to inform members of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) diaspora and other stakeholders of ongoing development assistance programs in the DRC, provide a forum for a frank exchange of ideas and identify avenues for more effective diaspora involvement in peacebuilding.  The second panel was moderated by Raymond Gilpin, Associate Vice-President for Sustainable Economies, U.S. Institute of Peace and featured presentations from Kaya Adams, Regional Advisor for East Africa in the U.S. Agency for International Development's Africa Bureau; Eustacius Betubiza, Country Program Coordinator for the DRC, World Bank; and Amadou Labara, Head of the DRC Country Office, International Finance Corporation.
