The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) is honored to announce that “Salam Shabab,” a peacebuilding TV series for Iraqi youth, was named a finalist in the Prix Jeunesse International, a biannual competition recognizing excellence in children’s television programming.

United States Institute of Peace President Richard H. Solomon announced yesterday that he will step down as the Institute’s chief executive on September 13, 2012. Solomon has led the organization for the past 19 years.

The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) has appointed Marcia Wong as director of intergovernmental affairs. Wong will play a leadership role in ensuring effective USIP institutional relations and interaction with the federal government, especially the Departments of Defense, State and Homeland Security, and USAID and the Peace Corps.

The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) has appointed Beth Cole as dean of institutional affairs for its Academy for International Conflict Management and Peacebuilding. Cole will play a key leadership role in guiding coordination of training services between USIP and the federal government, especially the Departments of Defense and State, and nongovernmental and international organizations (NGOs, IOs).

As the number of students trained at its Academy for International Conflict Management and Peacebuilding climbs toward 25,000, the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) also welcomes an accomplished new dean. Dr. Lauren Van Metre has been named the Academy’s dean of students. She joins the Academy’s management team led by Provost Pamela Aall, Jeff Helsing (Dean of Curriculum), and Mike Lekson (Director of Gaming).

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Henry Kissinger’s secret trip to China. This unique diplomatic initiative began the process of normalizing America’s relations with the People’s Republic of China (PRC). On November 15, Solomon delivered this year’s Holdridge Memorial Lecture in an event at the Institute.
