On May 31, 2010, USIP co-hosted an event in Lahore, Pakistan with the University of the Punjab’s Pakistan Study Center on “Pakistan-U.S. Relations: The India Factor.” Panelists discussed India’s presence in Afghanistan and the U.S. stance on Pakistan’s concerns about the issue. Both panelists were categorical in stating that Pakistan needed to set modest goals for its foreign policy and work within its limitations. They argued that a stable U.S.-Pakistan relationship was an imperative for both sides but that Pakistan needed to address its domestic problems first and foremost.
