Senior Training Officer Ted Feifer provided two days of training in communication, negotiation and mediation in cross-cultural and emotional situations to 18 participants in a month-long course conducted by the Spanish non-governmental organization Helsinki Espana. The focus of the workshop was on skills-building for those seeking to work in field missions of international organizations. The month-long workshop dovetails with UN and OSCE training programs, and is part of the UN-accredited system of international peace-support operations training (UNITAR).
Participants came from Spain, Romania, Cameroon, Nigeria, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Canada, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, and the Czech Republic. They found the exercises in the program to be an invaluable opportunity to apply skills necessary in dealing with the challenges they are likely to face across the spectrum of conflict.
