USIP Senior Program Officer Jacki Wilson, in partnership with Search for Common Ground and local partner The African Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility, organized a four-day capacity-building workshop in the Niger Delta town of Warri in February 2008.  The workshop on “ Negotiation and Leadership” for Non-Governmental Organizations and members of Regional Development Councils in the Niger Delta built on a 10-day assessment trip conducted in September, 2007. The workshop began with two days of skills training focusing on leadership, decision-making, negotiation, and communications.  The second two days focused exclusively on the NGOs demonstrating best practices and coordinating strategic planning for Niger Delta activity.   The workshop contributes to efforts to improve communication and create more effective relationships between oil-impacted communities, local development councils, oil companies and Nigerian government entities.
