Toward the End of Poverty in Haiti

In November 2007, the Government of Haiti published its strategy for economic growth and poverty reduction. The strategy identified development priorities for the government and provided a blueprint for international donor support. Food riots, a government leadership crisis and the devastation of four hurricanes and tropical storms prevented action on the plan. Now, an international donors' meeting will provide an opportunity for Haiti's government and the donor community to consider economic growth and poverty reduction strategies.

The challenges of balancing immediate recovery needs with long-term development and supporting the Haitian government’s role as the lead actor in the development process will be discussed by Haiti’s former Prime Minister and a panel of experts.
