On November 3, President Pervez Musharraf declared a state of emergency in Pakistan. This has resulted in the rise of political chaos and a judicial battleground. More than ever, there are new challenges to restore democracy and rule of law in Pakistan.

Join us to hear Mr. Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, founder and executive director of the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) talk about emergency rule, civil-military relations, the struggle to establish a civilian government, and the worsening conflict in tribal areas and settled districts of the Frontier province and Balochistan.

Mr. Mehboob has extensive experience in the implementation of projects in the field of strengthening democratic institutions, democratization, political discourse and dialogues for reconciliation. Mr. Mehboob is an authority on political, legislative and electoral affairs of Pakistan and is often invited to comment in the national and international media.
