Inside Out: An Integrative Critique of the Northern Ireland Peace Process

Senior Fellow Stephen Farry will discuss the challenges of implementing the Good Friday Agreement and explain why it contributed to deeper communal divisions and to increased political polarization.

Dr. Farry was involved in the negotiations that led to the Good Friday Agreement, and worked with the British, Irish, and American governments in subsequent talks to realize the implementation of those accords. Currently, he is the General Secretary of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland, and has also served as a member of North Down Borough Council (in suburban Belfast) since 1993, including a term as deputy mayor.

Farry has also worked as a pro bono trainer and consultant on four projects in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina for Washington's National Democratic Institute.

He received his Ph.D. on the United Nations, collective security and the national interest from Queen’s University of Belfast.
