Education and Training CenterNorthern Ireland: One Step at a Time: The Derry March and Prospects for PeaceScenarioThe simulation deals with a specific issue in the Northern Ireland conflict: that of the marches which serve as a microcosm of the larger conflict between Catholics and Protestants. The simulation's focus on the Parade Commission's decision whether or not to allow a particular march in Derry helps crystallize the wide array of issues that arise when the Northern Ireland conflict is studied. In role-playing the representatives of the various concerned political parties, associations, and authorities, participants learn about the deep roots of this longstanding conflict and attempt to fashion new proposals to deal with this challenging situation.
