Alice L. Burger | Signature School | Evansville, IN
"Nuclear Non-Proliferation Efforts in South Africa and Israel"

Alice Burger lives in Evansville, Indiana. She is a senior at Signature School. In the fall, she will enroll in Dennison University, located in Grancille, Ohio. She plans to study international relations and environmental studies. While in high school, Alice has played viola with the Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. She also worked on the school theatre productions as stage manager. She has also been involved in her school’s conservation club. In the spring of last year she was inducted into the National Honor Society and this year she received the rank of National Merit Finalist.
Iowa

William has spent his entire life in Marshaltown, Iowa and the surrounding area. He has established deep and firm roots in the community, participating in activities such as band, track, soccer and chess. He enjoys writing immensely, from poetry and stories to scripts. He has also taken part in drama, though he does not often act. He volunteers regularly for community service and is proud to do so. He has not yet solidified his plans for after high school. He hopes to either attend film school or attend SOEST in Hawaii and study marine biology. His greatest desire is to return to Japan, where he visited in 2004 by winning a spot in an exchange program.
Kansas
Jacob T. Hendee | Pleasant Ridge High School | Easton, KS

Jacob is a student at Pleasant Ridge High School in Easton, Kansas. Upon graduation, he plans to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and study Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, concentrating in Forest Science. Jacob has been active as the school’s Future Business Leaders of America Local Chapter President, National Honor Society Chapter President, and Student Council and Class Treasurers. In FBLA, he has won three state-level competitive events and has placed nationally. Jacob also has been selected four times to the Topeka Capital Journal 3A All-State team in football, twice as first team selection. He plans to walk on to the football team at Illinois. Jacob has also been chosen as an All-League basketball player twice. Additionally, he has been selected as Wendy’s High School Heisman State Finalist, Leavenworth-Lansing Junior Citizen of the Year Finalist, three-time class citizenship award winner, and National Merit Commended Scholar.

Leah lives in Ft. Wright, KY (right near Cincinnati) and is a junior at Notre Dame Academy. She is an honor student at Notre Dame and she definitely plans on attending a four-year college after high school. She is undecided on a major. She has a passion for singing, so most of her extracurricular activities revolve it. She has acted in school plays for the last three years. She is also involved in the music ministry at her parish, St. Agnes. She enjoys reading and finding new different music. Her favorite subjects are English and world history. She has been involved in community service since grade school, when she volunteered at a nursing home. Now, she volunteers at a grade school working with 1st and 2nd graders.
Louisiana

Sarath is actively involved in several clubs at his school. He is the president of the speech and debate and mock trial clubs, vice-president of Future Business Leaders of America and Dormitory Council, and staff member for the school literary magazine Folio and the Amnesty International newsletter. He is an Academic All-American public speaker and debater; qualifying for state in speech and debate, mock trial, and FBLA, and nationals in two speech and debate tournaments. The last few summers, he attended camps at Stanford University, the Lead America Program in Washington D.C., and Boy's State, where he was voted most outstanding Parish Citizen. Over the summer, he volunteers at the local Veteran Affairs Medical Center as well. He enjoys watching comedic movies that do not seem to make sense, like Tommy Boy, Anchorman, and Zoolander. Bands like Modest Mouse and Postal Service occupy most of his music time, although the occasional rap song is fun to listen to. He plans on attending American University in the fall, studying international affairs and law and philosophy.
Maine
Samuel S. Inman | Saint Dominic Regional High School | Albion, ME
"Nuclear Proliferation: Dangerous Result of Systemic Failure"

Samuel is from Albion, Maine. He lives an hour and forty-five minutes away from his school, St. Dominic’s, but says the drive is made worth it by the amazing Baylee Phillips. He likes running track, but has not yet found the energy or the time to try out for his school’s cross-country team. In the meantime, he burns calories by reading "The Onion." He has participated in programs run by the National Geographic Society, Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, Summer Institute for the Gifted at Amherst College, Civic Oration Contests, and Bates Colleges’ Forensics Institute. He was invited to the National and Congressional Student Leadership Conference, and the National Youth Leadership Forum on Defense, Intelligence and Diplomacy. His favorite award was from his 8th grade class: "Most Likely To Become President." His hope is that the privileges he has listed above will give him the drive, ethics, leadership and intelligence to make a difference in our nation and in the world. He observes, “both arenas sorely need new hope.”
Maryland
Yueyang Li | Montgomery Blair High School | Rockville, MD
"Preventing Nuclear Proliferation through Committed and Tailored Efforts"

Yueyang is a senior at Montgomery Blair High School. Fluent in Chinese, she has earned international recognition for her compositions and has published in a professional journal in the PRC. An accomplished pianist and artist, she has also received numerous awards for her achievements in academics and science. Yueyang recently conducted research on transient gene expression and presented her findings at the International Science and Engineering Fair. She plays table tennis and enjoys traveling and photography in her free time. Yueyang plans to study engineering at MIT.
Massachusetts
Shanshan Wang | Mt. Greylock Regional High School | Williamstown, MA

Shan is a junior at Mt. Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, Massachusetts. She is co-captain of both the Cross Country Running and Skiing teams, and is on the student advisory council to her state. She is active in both the school and state Junior Classical League, and has won four gold medals in the National Latin Exam. Shan is also editor of her school newspaper and volunteers with the Red Cross Youth Program. In her spare time she enjoys reading in odd positions; she also loves Harry Potter, Rufus Wainwright, and cereal (all equally, of course).
Michigan

Rob is a senior at Detroit Country Day School in Detroit, Michigan. This coming fall, he plans to attend Amherst College. He is a four-year member of both the varsity soccer and lacrosse teams at Detroit Country Day School, and he has been named first team All-State in both sports as well as first team All Mid-West in lacrosse. He is captain of both teams and won the state championship with his soccer team in the fall. He looks forward to playing both sports in college. He is also a member of the Cum Laude Society and the Student Council. He is also very involved with his church, Christ Church Cranbrook.
