Green Building

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The LEED Green Building Rating System™ is a voluntary standards and certification program that defines high-performance green buildings. The assessment method was developed and is run by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), a national, non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C.

The headquarters project is registered under the Green Building Rating System for New Construction (LEED-NC) version 2.1, and we expect the building will be LEED Certified.

How Will USIP Achieve LEED Certification?

  • The Institute’s building will convert a hardtop parking lot into an attractive, productive building enhanced by green landscaping and shade trees. (Sustainable Sites Assessment Category)
  • The Institute’s building and landscape design will protect and conserve water. (Water Efficiency Assessment Category)
  • The Institute will take steps to improve energy performance and eliminate the use of ozone-depleting CFCs and HCFCs. (Energy & Atmosphere Assessment Category)
  • The Institute will reduce the generation of waste and encourage the use of recycled materials. (Materials & Resources Assessment Category)
  • The Institute headquarters will enhance the indoor environment for its employees and guests by eliminating odorous building materials and maximizing interior daylighting (Indoor Environmental Quality Assessment Category).
  • The Institute has engaged LEED-accredited professionals from the beginning of the design process and is taking innovative steps to achieve LEED certification. (Innovation & Design Process Assessment Category)
