Goals and Themes
The new headquarters of the United States Institute of Peace will include a Public Education Center (PEC) dedicated to increasing the public's understanding of international conflicts and non-violent approaches that can be used to manage them.
In the fall of 2006, the Institute selected the award-winning firm of Christopher Chadbourne and Associates to develop a preliminary design of the PEC.
Goals
- Raise awareness about the nature and sources of international conflicts
- Educate about nonviolent approaches to conflict management
- Highlight the work of the Institute and other organizations with similar missions
- Attract young people to careers in international affairs and conflict resolution
- Encourage public discussion about international conflict and global affairs
